This is Steve, founding editor of The Occupied Times.

Oh, cool! So what is it you’ll be bringing to this year’s fair?

Radical politics! We’ll be bringing lots of our last two issues of the paper, as well as back-issues from when we were producing the paper from St Paul’s

I think the OT is really a good looking publication how important is the design to the overall work?

The design is really important because it’s what catches people’s attention. Our aesthetic helps us to appeal to people who might not otherwise read a publication containing radical politics, and it also reflects the political messages in subtle ways.

Its interesting that you are making printed matter as a lot of groups are relying mostly on the internet these days, how come you decided to have a newspaper?

At first it made sense because during the occupation of St Paul’s many people didn’t have access to the internet, and the paper was a space for ideas and opinions without being seen as the ‘official’ line. The paper was also a way of saying “we are here” and acted as a milestone for the occupation with each edition. Print has a viral quality of its own. On the Tube people can’t access the internet but they will pick up a newspaper. Also, for a lot of people affected by the issues we focus on, Internet access might not be a given.

What kind of numbers do you print?

We print 2000 of each issue, but we are looking to increase the print-run if we can get some more help with distribution.
